As first-time parents, my husband and I were so thankful to have Mackenzie Johnson as our nurse for the delivery of our baby girl. It was a huge relief to know we had someone who was so attentive and knowledgeable there for us the whole time. When our midwife couldn’t be there, Mackenzie was able to help guide me through the labor process without any worry. She was encouraging and supportive the whole time. When my midwife was there, the two worked together so well I only had to focus on my next contraction because I knew they would both be there to help guide me through the next part of labor. She was so helpful, talking me through how to breathe and hold my push when my baby was crowning to help me stretch and have as minimal tearing as possible. She listened when I expressed my concerns about my pain and not knowing how to get through it. When I felt like the pain was too much, she talked me through it, letting me know I was almost there until my midwife arrived. Helping me through this transition of what I thought was too much pain, was actually my body getting ready for the final push for my baby to arrive.
I truly believe because Mackenzie was my nurse, I was able to achieve the unmedicated birth I wanted and have an amazing birth experience. I don’t know if I would have had anyone else if I’d have been able to achieve that. She was also a great help with learning how to breastfeed my newborn. She answered all the questions I had and guided me on how to get a better latch when I was struggling with that. My husband and I are forever grateful we had Mackenzie as our nurse.
