We could have been afraid of all was experienced, yet he came out of there thinking he met a new friend.
My son has been dealing with reoccurring fevers for a very long time. During his most recent fever episode at East DePere clinic for only imaging and lab test, my son started shaking, becoming weak; and had a few other physical changes. Even though I have a medical background, seeing my son's status change so quickly caused me a great amount of fear and stress. My husband ran to the desk to ask for a nurse to look at him and Mackenzie came. She not only took excellent care of my son's fever and monitored his vitals/him, but she also was able to calm me down.

I feel she went above and beyond to manage the entire situation and most importantly still took control of making sure my son was safe and cared for. She kept reassuring me that we are doing a good job and everything we saw was normal with a fever. She then came to my son's blood draw. She had to help hold him (as he's only 4). He was very afraid, and she kept talking to him to calm him down. When he came home, he called his grandmother to tell her about his "new best friend'' he met at the clinic. We could have been afraid of all was experienced, yet he came out of there thinking he met a new friend, I feel his experience (and ours) was completely shaped due to the care Mackenzie provided as a nurse.

The role of the nurse goes far beyond the patient. They are expected to be able to manage the entire situation, family, and patient. She excludes all of those expectations.
