Maclovia took time to see this patient beyond her physical needs, and after talking with the patient, she recognized the deep pain and loneliness the patient was experiencing.
As a collective faculty, we have witnessed many times when Maclovia has displayed above-and-beyond care and compassion to patients and fellow students during her time as an MBU nursing student. During her time as a student, Maclovia was able to participate in a mission trip to Greece, where she provided compassionate nursing care to Ukrainian refugees. She listened to their stories, cried with them, prayed with them, and loved them in the name of Jesus.

During clinical, Maclovia was able to care for a patient who was going home on hospice. The patient lived in an extended care facility and did not have any family, as her husband had passed away two years prior. Maclovia took time to see this patient beyond her physical needs, and after talking with the patient, she recognized the deep pain and loneliness the patient was experiencing. Maclovia was able to pray with the patient, hold her hand, and remind her that Jesus knew all of her pain and loved her immeasurably.

This story is only one example of how Maclovia went above and beyond to care for others. The DAISY Award recognizes registered nurses who embody the essence of nursing care, and we are confident that Maclovia will receive many more awards like this throughout her career.
