Macy went above and beyond for a cancer patient transitioning to hospice care.
Her patient (one who was beloved on the unit for their kindness) was a homeless individual. They were living out of a friend's motel room, had lost all of their belongings, and were a difficult case for the social worker. They were eventually placed on hospice because their treatment options were not covered.
The day she learned of this, Macy, on her own, went to Wal-Mart to buy the patient a duffle bag, clothes, toiletries, and a Visa gift card. Her act of kindness sparked a tidal wave of donations from other nurses and raised more than $500 for him. She was able to bring a ray of positive light to a dim situation.
