Maddie was my nurse last night before my surgery to have a defibrillator placed for my heart. Recent events leading up to this hospitalization have been terrifying and Maddie was exactly the nurse we needed to finally feel a sense of relief.

At first, she prioritized my goals for the night, which were to go for a walk and then have a restful sleep before surgery. She immediately walked with me and then explained everything she would do to help me get the best sleep possible. I also noticed her unwavering eye contact with both me and my daughter- an extra gesture that reassured us even more about how safe I was and how I was in such good hands for the night.

Even just her warm smile and soft voice when checking in on me throughout the night made me reflect on the endless empathy, she had for the people she takes care of. Her empathy shined through in so many other ways too. Explaining what to expect for surgery, giving us detailed answers to all questions, and even getting to know me on a personal level. We bonded about our cars, which even took my mind off my anxiety for a bit. I felt that I was in the best hands possible and firmly believe that she deserves this award and recognition for her hard work and generous soul.
