When the topic of Patient and Family-Centered Care comes up, Maddie's is often the first name that gets mentioned. Time and time again, she has proven herself to be not only a competent clinician but a kind, caring, and compassionate caregiver for both the patient she is taking care of and the loved ones in their room. She is always ready to offer a hand to hold, willing to sit down and talk through what's happening step by step.
She has worked tirelessly as a primary RN for some of our longer length of stay patients, ensuring that the patient and family have someone who they recognize and trust to provide excellent care. She takes the time to explain the unknown, provide reassurance, and advocate for their best interest. She has been the recipient of numerous commendations for her willingness to go the extra mile for her patients, taking that extra time to help them feel human again.

My husband has been a patient at UWMC since December 2018. All of the nurses, PCTs, and physicians have been incredible. Maddie is his primary nurse. She has been a delight. I am a nurse, and Maddie epitomizes the nursing profession. She is one of the smartest nurses I have ever worked with. She not only made my husband feel special, but she also supported me. She cut his hair when it was shaggy. She helped us get him outside for fresh air. This terrible time in our life was made doable and brighter knowing we would see "our Maddie." We will always be thankful for all of the love and care we received from everyone at UWMC, especially Maddie.
