Nelson took the time to tell me how to resubmit, but not only that, Nelson made sure the doctor knew how and when to reply to the VA processing center’s requests.
I wanted to take the time to share how big of an impact and how much nurse Madelaine Nelson contributed to the improved quality of life that my husband now has. Before we met Nelson, we were frustrated, angry and had no good opinion of the care given at VA facilities and the treatment of veterans.

My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's and a whole host of service-related illnesses that took him down overnight. He became unemployable and we sought assistance from the VA but ran into bottlenecks at every hand. We thought we were submitting forms as required, but with each submission came no answers, no help, and more frustration. It got to the point that my husband considered ending his life. It was the first visit with the doctor and nurse Nelson that changed our situation forever.

I remember sitting before Nelson pouring my heart out while she listened. Then she started going through my husband’s records where she found request after request from the VA processing centers for information that was either not completed or completed incorrectly by his previous Primary Care Doctor. Nelson took the time to tell me how to resubmit, but not only that, Nelson made sure the doctor knew how and when to reply to the VA processing center’s requests. From that day on my husband went from no real help to getting everything he needs to sustain his life as it is. He and I have gone from giving up to back to hope. He has gone from a 40% disability rating to 100%. He now has an electric wheelchair, much needed medical supplies, a bed and wheelchair lift and just recently approval for a van conversion for wheelchair transportation. These things are so significant to my husband’s day to day life. Nelson also pointed me to seeking caregivers’ assistance. I’m happy to report I am receiving not only monetary assistance but a place for resources and help that I need to give him the best care possible.

I say all of this to say that my husband and I thank Nelson and the doctor from the bottom of our hearts. Both of them continue to give us and I’m sure other veterans the care and respect that is so needed and appreciated. It is medical personnel like them that give sometimes hopeless situations hope and a brighter day. God Bless Nelson. We pray you never grow tired of giving such heartfelt service to Veterans.
