We had a minor patient who came to the ER with her aunt. This patient had multiple social and legal issues going on in her life and could not get seen by an OBGYN due to these issues. She recently moved to Mississippi to live with her aunt. Her mom was incarcerated, and her grandfather had temporary custody of her in Florida. Before Mom had been incarcerated, she burned all of her stuff, including her birth certificate, identification, etc.

Madeleine jumped right in, and this girl opened up to her. She had informed Madeleine that she recently moved to Mississippi to be with her aunt because her grandfather was abusing her. Madeleine made numerous phone calls to Court Appointed Special Advocates, the Mississippi Department of Human Services, the Florida Dept of Human Services, etc., to get this expecting young girl and her aunt the resources she needed in order to get the care she needed for herself and her unborn child. The family was ecstatic and appreciative of Madeleine’s compassion and the time she spent helping them with all the issues they were facing. This is one of many examples that Madeleine goes above and beyond for her patients.

Madeleine also helps her team. She has taken on teaching trauma education to her colleagues to improve patient care and quality. She helps precept new grads and employees to the department and organization. Madeleine is an asset to our department, the organization, and our patients. She is a role model and demonstrates Ochsner’s core values daily. Madeleine also does chart audits on trauma charts and stroke charts and provides staff with feedback in real-time to improve the quality of care, as well as patient outcomes.

Madeleine was notified to be on standby due to a bus accident that occurred on the interstate. The bus was carrying 50 college students from the University of South Carolina to New Orleans for a fraternity formal. Madeleine came in without any hesitation to help the team and take care of patients.
