What makes a DAISY nurse? Compassion, skill, empathy, and advocacy. Maddie Carroll has been recognized for all those traits and more. Having a baby is one of the greatest and yet terrifying experiences parents go through. Understanding this and creating an environment where parents feel heard, safe, and supported is clearly Maddie’s forte. One mother shared, “She is so informative, helped me with everything, encouraging, and made us feel welcomed and comfortable.” Another mom shared, “Maddie was so compassionate and advocated for me.” When a mother and baby are separated at birth due to unforeseen circumstances, having a nurse to support you through that time is priceless; just ask a recent new mom who experienced a complicated birth resulting in her baby being transferred to BBH NICU, “Maddie helped me recover both physically and mentally, as I struggled with feelings of guilt and disappointment she lifted my spirits and kept me going.” Finally, the parents of the twins shared that Maddie’s advocacy during a trying time in their pregnancy helped them focus on what was really important – bonding with their boys. “She made sure we didn’t feel lonely or isolated, and she even laughed at my jokes.”
