Madeline is the epitome of a true expert. She spearheaded many performance improvement activities and research projects that led to changes in practice and improved patient outcomes.
Madeline Cozzi-Gottlieb has been a valued member of our Mount Sinai South Nassau nursing staff since the mid-1980s. Initially, Madeline started her illustrious career in Adult Critical Care then in labor and Delivery where our story really begins. As a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery, Madeline is the epitome of a true expert. Madeline spearheaded many performance improvement activities and research projects that led to changes in practice and improved patient outcomes. For example, early detection and management of antepartum and postpartum hypertension, for which Madeline was recognized by ACOG district II safe motherhood initiative. Research studies such as clear fluids offered to laboring patients and Neonatal/Newborn hypoglycemia protocols reducing the number of newborn admissions to the NICU.

Additionally, Madeline has been both preceptor and charge nurse and developed our perinatal bereavement program, during her tenor as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery. Madeline achieved her master's degree as an AFNP and is certified in Electronic Fetal Monitoring. Madeline then transitioned into her current title as the Nurse Educator, Professional Development, Practice and Research for the Women's and children's service-line.

In her current role, Madeline became a Neonatal resuscitation instructor, developed residency and fellowship programs for them, and implements Neonatal, adult, and pediatric education codes. Madeline is responsible for all education aspects related to our service and participates in many committees within our organization. Madeline facilitated the development of our unit-based councils. We are proud to mention that Madeline won the title of Nassau/Suffolk Hospital council award for Nursing Excellence in 2004. Madeline's dedication to our staff is evident by her morning rounds. Madeline see's as many staff members as possible asking "what can I do for you, I'm here for you". This is a brief synopsis of an extraordinary career.
