Maddy, as we call her, is a talented and knowledgeable nurse, one who is a natural leader and an exceptional team player. But the best thing about Maddy is her caring demeanor with patients. Whenever there is chaos around a patient, Maddy recognizes the person in the patient. She gives them eye contact and a focused ear.
During one particularly tough situation, Maddy was caring for a husband and wife who had been involved in a fatal accident. The wife ended up dying. The husband, who was also injured, was devastated of course. Maddy asked the patient how she could help with his spiritual well-being. She sat with him and listened as he expressed his guilt and grief. After arranging for the chaplain to come, Maddy also coordinated time for the patient to go see his wife and say goodbye.
This exemplifies Maddy as a nurse, going beyond to care for patients - entirely.
