Maddie jumped right in, called for backup, stopped the infusion, and hooked me up to Benadryl. But most importantly, she calmed me down.
In September of 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After the diagnosis, my treatment started fairly quickly. My wife accompanied me to my very first of many chemo infusions. It was there that I was greeted by Maddie (Madeline) and her bright smile! It was going to be a long day for me as your first infusion has many breaks in between to make sure you are tolerating what they are infusing. Maddy tried to make light of the situation every time she entered the room. Always smiling and trying to make me smile while helping my wife understand everything they were doing and everything that would happen going forward.

During the first infusion, my body had a reaction where I couldn't really breathe and I was so scared. Maddie jumped right in, called for backup, stopped the infusion, and hooked me up to Benadryl. But most importantly, she calmed me down. I had to go back the next day to try again and ultimately had a completely different chemo drug after my oncologist made the decision. Again, I had Maddie as my nurse! I was so relieved!

Every treatment after that (every 3 weeks for what felt like forever) I was able to have Maddie as my nurse almost every single time with a few exceptions in between. She made something as horrible as going through chemotherapy bearable. Always smiling always staying positive for me and always trying to help me see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am not 100% sure I would have been able to make it through 2 years of treatment without her! If anyone deserves this award it is definitely Madeline London!!
