Maddie Schwarz works hard every day to assess every patient and identify any needs the patient may have. Maddie takes pride in her work to make sure each patient has a safe discharge plan, equipment needed, and medications needed at discharge. These last few months, we have been challenged with some very complicated discharges involving collaboration with other organizations/groups in the community and state. This is very stressful and requires follow-ups daily to keep progress moving in a forward motion. Maddie has remained organized, patient, and determined to succeed in her plans for patients' safe discharge. This work can challenge the best of us and is often overlooked. I want to recognize Maddie for the care and compassion she brings to every patient admitted to PKIMC. Maddie has even delivered patients to the airport to catch flights, picked up patient belongings from hotels to assist with off-island transport, and even set up a Coast Guard flight to get a bariatric patient to Anchorage for continued care when a commercial flight was not an option. Maddie truly cares about our patients and works above and beyond to ensure these needs are met.
