This Nurse was caring for a trauma patient who had been in the hospital for over a month. This man was very independent and active before his injury, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. As you can imagine, being stuck in a hospital room was really taking a toll on his mental well-being. This day, his dog, his best friend, had passed away, and his wife came to tell him the news. The patient was obviously upset and agitated at the situation and just wanted to get out of the room. She took time out of her busy morning to arrange for the patient to be in his bed and be able to sit where there were windows and sunshine. The patient stated that this small gesture really changed his day; feeling the sun on his skin helped him make it through a difficult situation.
