Madison (Maddie) is recognized for her work on a secured psychiatric ward during her mental health clinical rotation. Maddie quickly connected with the patients, demonstrating extraordinary rapport, interest, engagement, and initiative throughout the clinical day. One patient was withdrawn and reluctant to engage. Maddie simply sat with the patient and began a conversation. After a period of time, the patient began to connect with eye contact, and eventually, an animated conversation ensued between the two of them. Maddie’s enthusiasm, calm demeanor, and quick rapport were noticed by all.
