July 2026 Honoree
Madison Nilsen, BSN, RN
Maddie, who was working Friday day shift, is an absolutely fantastic nurse. I brought my 7-year-old daughter in to rule out appendicitis. Although peds are not part of Maddie’s everyday workload, you would have thought she had been a pediatric nurse for years. The way she cared for, informed, and just genuinely loved my child was nothing short of honorary.
She was having quite the shift, as heard from neighboring rooms of psych patient chaos, but she took every bit of time she had to attend to my daughter. Despite being busy, her demeanor and bedside manner never shifted. She remained positive and kind throughout the entire process.
Nurses like Maddie make being in the emergency department a positive experience for children. This sets them up for success with trusting medical professionals in the future and advocating for their own health.
As an ED staff member at a neighboring hospital myself, I applaud Maddie for all that she is and does.
Thank you Maddie, you are one of a kind and have a beautiful future in nursing ahead of you.
