I would like to recognize Madison for the special care that she has brought to one of our patients on 15 Prentice, which is not even her home unit. A couple weeks ago Madison floated from 11P to 15P to work as a resource nurse and she was incredibly helpful to our entire nursing team, but more importantly, she did a wonderful thing for a patient who has been on the unit for weeks. After Madison and I gave the bedbound patient a bath, she braided the patient’s hair and showed her what she looked like using the patient’s front camera on her phone. The patient became emotional and was so pleased with the braid and told Madison that this is the first time that she felt beautiful while being in the hospital. Madison put her Ascom phone number on the board for anyone to give her a call when the patient wanted her hair done again. Today, I gave her a call and she came up to 15P to braid her hair again and the patient was elated!

She is so deserving of this award. This patient is possibly approaching comfort care and for a nurse that doesn’t even work on the unit to take the time out of her day on her own unit to come make one of our patients feel special is an act of kindness that deserves to be recognized.
