Madison Paxton took care of me the morning after I had been sexually assaulted. She gave me strength and I’ve thought about her since that day. She made sure that she sat down with me and explained everything that was going to happen, from the exam to all the questions and the people that would be coming in and out of the room. She stayed with me when new people came in to ask questions and made sure that I knew that all I had to do was say stop and she would make everyone stop and leave. She gave me my voice back and made me feel like I had control over what was happening. She put my hair in a bun with her own hair tie and I’ve worn it on my wrist ever since. I have court tomorrow and I’ll look at that hair tie when I need to feel strong or if I feel nervous. Thank you to Madison for being there for me and making an impact. She meant so much to me that day and every time I’ve had to remember it since.
