Madison Rigsby is dedicated to her endeavor to be a nurse, and it is evident in everything that she does. Last semester I was this student's clinical instructor. She was consistently kind, compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable. She actively sought learning opportunities in the clinical environment. Writing this nomination is hard because you are asking for a specific example of how the student went above and beyond. But I can't think of anything that was in and of itself "above and beyond". But we all know that sometimes it's the little things that count. Her clinical rotation last semester was full of "the little things". She always checked on her clients. She talked with them. She eased their fears. She was highly knowledgeable about her clients, their medications, and their treatment. Her communication with her clients was caring and compassionate. She asked the right questions and asked for clarification when she didn't understand. One day I was passing medications with Madison when a family member asked her a question. This specific family member had just finished talking to a provider about a life-altering diagnosis. The family member had recently been crying. Madison answered the family's questions with ease. Her answers were accurate, within her scope, and comforting for this family during such a difficult time. This is the type of "little thing" I am talking about. It mattered, and it made a difference... even though it was so small.
