The compassion she demonstrated is something I will never forget.
My Grandad came in for a low blood count and ended up being in a third-degree heart block. With other health problems, including ITP, my Grandad ultimately made the brave decision to go to hospice. My mom, my Grandad, and I sat in tears as our world stopped spinning.
Madison came in multiple times asking what we needed. She then sat down and asked him to "tell us some stories about your life." As my Grandad lit up and talked about his favorite stories, she stood at his bedside holding his hand and cried with us. The compassion she demonstrated is something I will never forget.
My Grandad died peacefully two days later. Some of his last words were about how great the nurses were. He said, " I can't believe these people who don't know me care so much about me." I have always said, "You can have all the skills to be a good nurse, but to be a great nurse, you must have compassion."
Madison is a great nurse. We are deeply thankful for everything she did for us. I hope she realizes how much of an impact she made on all of us in the room that day, and one of the last days of my Grandad's life.
