As he was leaving, he started to cry and express how grateful he was to Maeve for all of the care she provided and the additional support he secured through her advocacy and education.
Maeve is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse. She is compassionate, competent, and a patient advocate at all times. She is passionate about education and shows this every day she works on 671. We recently had a young patient who was very ill, far from home and did not have resources, support, or insurance. In the past month, he had been given multiple difficult diagnoses and all of them required lots of expensive and complicated medications and regimens. Maeve advocated and coordinated with our case managers and internal medicine team to find free programs for follow-up and medication assistance. When it came to the day of his discharge, Maeve was concerned with how complicated his medication regimen was with an atypical high-dose steroid taper, RIPE medications, and HAART medications. Maeve created a calendar to illustrate the steroid taper by week, as well as going over the best time to take his other medications. On a phone call with his mother in another country, he called her and the staff angels. As he was leaving, he started to cry and express how grateful he was to Maeve for all of the care she provided and the additional support he secured through her advocacy and education.
