That night, she brought us a beautiful white dress to put on her while the hospital chaplain led the dedication. This tiny gesture meant the world to my husband and me. Her selflessness and care for our baby is something I will never forget.
I would like to recognize Maddie Fruehwald for a DAISY Award for her outstanding care of our baby. Maddie was one of the amazing nurses who took care of our sweet P during her stay in the NICU. Maddie was one of our first-night nurses after having our baby three months early. She took two scared, confused, and worried first-time parents and made us feel like family. From the very first night, she was so patient with us, taking the time to explain everything she was doing. She allowed us a safe space to ask questions and be involved where we could. She made sure we had a NICU milestone ribbon and celebrated every one of P’s firsts with us. She always had the best energy, and we would leave her shifts feeling encouraged. Her bubbly personality is contagious.

To this day, my father calls Maddie his nurse buddy. He still praises the care she gave his granddaughter on the day he visited while she was working. Her outstanding care was noticed by more than just my husband and I.

Our family had a 28-day stay in the NICU and Maddie was there with me from the beginning and at the end. Our P went to heaven, and Maddie was one of the many nurses who stood by our side that heartbreaking night. They worked tirelessly and felt the loss as deeply as we did. I know she loved my baby like her own. They all did.

She took the time to make our worst day special by being sure that our little girl could be dedicated to the Lord in a way she deserved. That night, she brought us a beautiful white dress to put on her while the hospital chaplain led the dedication. This tiny gesture meant the world to my husband and me. Her selflessness and care for our baby is something I will never forget. She made a difference in our journey, and I will consider her a part of our family forever.
