Maggie Cline, BSN, RN

I was transported by ambulance to Einstein due to a severe allergic reaction caused by an iron infusion. Upon arrival, I was told I would need to wait in the waiting room to be seen by a triage nurse before my care could begin. My overall experience at that point was terrible, especially as my throat was actively closing.

I was eventually called into triage by Maggie. After assessing my condition and asking a few questions, she immediately recognized the severity of my situation. Despite being told that the standard policy and procedure required me to return to the waiting room, Maggie took swift action and became my advocate. She went directly to the doctors and explained that, although protocol suggested otherwise, my condition required immediate care.

Maggie’s actions were not only compassionate but a true example of old-fashioned nursing at its best. Little did she know she saved my life. Since that day, I have seen three different doctors, all of whom have said it was an act of God that I even made it to the emergency room in the first place.

While my overall experience in the ER was not great, Maggie was the shining light. She truly listened, cared, and fought for me when I needed it most.

I understand how difficult and demanding patient care can be and the obstacles nurses face daily, but I want Maggie to know that her advocacy, dedication, and courage did not go unnoticed. It’s the rare moments like these that define a great nurse. Having the confidence to stand firm, advocate for a patient, and respectfully challenge a doctor when judgment and experience demand it.

Maggie, you are truly an inspiration, and I will be forever grateful.
