Maggie Merkler, RN

I would like to acknowledge Maggie Merkler for The DAISY Award this year. Maggie always provides a high level of care to her patients but the one situation that has warranted this Award was her care for a patient who had a terminal illness. The patient was young and had a family with school-age children. It was very difficult since they were also well known in the community. Maggie also was able to handle the very high level of complex medical care that the patient needed. Maggie went over and above the call of duty answering calls from the patient on nights and weekends for PRN visits to attend to the patient’s needs. The case went on with increasing demands from 2019 until the patient's transfer to hospice in December 2022. Maggie continued to visit the patient while she was on hospice and make sure her spiritual needs were met, helping the family have visits from the clergy of their shared parish. In the end the patient did expire at home with our Hospice with a great deal of dignity and comfort. I would like to have her acknowledged for her outstanding care and compassion to this patient.
