Maggie not only cared for the patient in this situation, but the patient's wife as well.
Maggie Davis from RN triage handled a patient call on 12/14/22 where a wife was calling to update her husband's provider, as he had recently begun taking his insulin again. His wife mentioned her husband had gained some weight, and he was experiencing some new onset leg swelling.
Maggie had a warm, compassionate tone, and connected with the patient's wife immediately. When the patient's wife was describing what symptoms her husband was experiencing, Maggie quickly realized something was wrong and advised the patient's wife her husband needed to be seen in the emergency department for further evaluation. Maggie remained calm and provided reassurance to the patient's wife.
Before the call ended, the patient's wife was tearful and stated to Maggie "thank you for being there". It was clear that Maggie's excellent nursing care made an incredible impact in this particular situation.
The next day (12/15), the patient's wife called back and wanted to thank Maggie for her excellent care she provided as her husband was admitted to the hospital for heart failure. She was extremely complimentary and thankful to all the nurses, stating "I just wanted to call and thank you all for everything you do. I love you all, and I truly mean that."
Maggie not only cared for the patient in this situation, but the patient's wife as well. Maggie's devotion to her work and the patients she cares for embodies the Mission of OSF, and RN Triage is very lucky to have her!
