From the beginning, he was attentive, patient, and showed compassion at every turn, not only to my husband but to me as well.
I am the primary caregiver for my 90-year-old husband. Over the past decade, he has experienced several serious health issues that required multiple hospital stays. During many of those stays, I often felt pushed aside and overlooked. I noticed problems such as medications not being administered correctly and IVs not being connected. While I am not a doctor, I care deeply about my husband and his well-being.

During this hospital stay, Mahmoud was the nurse assigned to my husband. From the beginning, he was attentive, patient, and showed compassion at every turn, not only to my husband but to me as well.

At 5:00 p.m., I voiced my concern that my husband still had an NPO order in place, even though he had not eaten since dinner the night before. Mahmoud immediately contacted the physician, had the order lifted, and ensured my husband received a meal.

Shortly after my husband received his tray, several nursing assistants insisted his bed needed to be traded because another patient required it. I explained that my husband had not eaten all day and asked if the change could wait. Although they initially left, they soon returned and insisted the move had to be done immediately.

My husband was placed in the only chair in the room, the same chair I had been sitting in all day, forcing me to stand and repeatedly move out of the way. I became overwhelmed and began to cry. Out of the five individuals present, only one asked if I was okay.

After they left, Mahmoud returned, brought me a chair, and comforted me. He later came back with a can of soda and a boxed lunch, which meant more to me than I can adequately express.

Mahmoud understands what it means to be a caregiver. His kindness and compassion will be remembered for a long time.
