Maina Karanja touched my heart to tears as he performed pedicure care for a homeless woman with dirty, long toenails that curved and were 7-8 inches long. Upon arrival from the ECC, I noted the patient with BLE elephantitis and these toenails that could have made the Guinness Book of World Records as they stood out alone!

***

After getting the patient bathed and CHG'd, I passed the room later to see Maina trimming her toenails, and this was not even his patient.

***

Maina is known to go above and beyond duty in his care, but this was extraordinary care to me. I know about foot washing, yet this was phenomenal because her nails had not been trimmed in probably a few years.

***

Great nurses work at Grady! Thank you Maina for your selfless care and compassion for the patients. Maina is very deserving of the Daisy award.

Thank you, Maina, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
