Maira Hernandez, BSN, CMSRN

Maira can always be found going above and beyond for her patients. She is a knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate nurse. She is a wonderful preceptor and knowledgeable charge nurse. Maira has a quiet presence that reassures the most anxious patient that everything is under control. Maira speaks fluent Spanish and is often called on to help translate or is assigned to patients who need help with communication. I have often seen her going the extra mile to make sure patients who struggle with communication in English feel heard and understood. She often is a lifeline for many families. As I struggled to explain a situation to a family, they asked me, “When does Maira come?” With one particular family, she stayed after her shift to go down to the pharmacy with them and translate while they got their meds and made sure they got in the taxicab for discharge. She is always smiling and ready for the next challenge.
