My medical case is unremarkable. A 64-year-old female with an anterior total hip replacement is in good general health and is a highly compliant patient. This ordinariness perfectly illustrates how one nurse's professionalism and compassion made a lasting impression. Maire was uniformly kind, cheerful, and efficient. She always explained what she was doing, no matter how often she did it, including medications, vitals, and more. When I asked for ice packs, she made several attempts to find ones that worked. She went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. The call bell was acknowledged immediately whenever I needed help to go to the bathroom. During my short time on the unit, I felt I was the only one being cared for, and Maire was responsible for that impression.
