While looking to nominate a nurse for the DAISY Award, I looked at a lot of material on the expectations of a hospital nurse. Also, I drew from my own experiences in previous hospital stays. In my over 3 months in the hospital at that time, I had a fair share of nurses. I cannot say that I have ever had a ‘bad’ nurse. Also in that time, I never had an exceptional nurse like I had during my week-long stay at Carle Foundation Hospital, with Maisey. It is a little difficult to put in words just how Maisey impacted my wife and me in the short time I was there. She did all of the things every other nurse did, but seemed to have a little more awareness, compassion, and understanding of our situation. She is a sharp person with a modest demeanor. Maisey did the little things that made a big difference. She patiently gave us all the details about my meds in a clear way (no matter how many times we asked). She connected with us as a friend who was genuinely concerned. She played along with my ‘dad jokes’. She tightened the screw on my eyeglass frame without us asking for her help. Maisey was a pleasure to be around. She made sure she came over to say goodbye when I was discharged, as she was assigned elsewhere on the floor that day. It gives me great pleasure to nominate Maisey for your DAISY Award at Carle Foundation Hospital!

Thank you, Maisey, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
