I am writing to nominate Makayla Winchester for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary care and dedication in caring for my mother during her hospital stay over the past two weeks.

Makayla’s compassionate nature and exceptional nursing skills have not only ensured my mother’s well-being but have also provided our family with immense comfort and peace of mind. Makayla consistently shows empathy, patience, and professionalism, making us feel confident that my mother is in great hands. She has taken the time to check on our family and Mom, knowing this has been a difficult situation. At one point, a doctor came in and delivered some tough news, making us all teary. Makayla took the time to sit bedside to Mom, hold her hand, and comfort her while we digested the news.

My mom has also been having a hard time eating and keeping food down during this hospital stay. Makayla did not give up when my mom denied food over and over again due to having no appetite. Makayla picked up on the fact that my mom loves chocolate ice cream, and she made her a protein milkshake to help get some nutrition into her. This is just another small example of Makayla’s attention to detail that truly makes her stand out.

Makayla’s attention to our feelings, willingness to listen and understand us, and proactive approach to addressing my mother’s needs are truly commendable. Makayla has made a significant difference in our lives, and we are deeply grateful for her tireless efforts and unwavering support. Knowing Makayla was here with my mom when I couldn’t have been so comforting.
