Makayla is a very compassionate and supportive nurse on our team. She is always going above and beyond for her patients to make sure they are receiving the care they deserve.

She was caring for a Spanish-speaking woman who was admitted for a bowel perforation related to diverticulitis. The patient had surgery while here at Avon and was being discharged the day Makayla was caring for her. While Makayla was putting together the patient's discharge instructions, she noted that some of the most important instructions did not translate to Spanish in Epic. She wanted to make sure the patient was able to safely go home and care for herself. She spent a great deal of time searching through our resources to find education written in Spanish for the patient. In order to ensure the patient had usable instructions for her home medications, Makayla used a translator system to translate all of her instructions for medications and post-surgical care into Spanish.

Makayla stated that every patient has the right to understand how to take care of themselves. She spent over an hour going above and beyond to ensure this patient could confidently go home and know what to do after her hospital stay. This is just one example of the care that she provides. She is truly a special nurse and truly a DAISY Nurse.
