I recently spent several days in the hospital. I won’t give all the details but by the time I went into surgery, I was in a deep, dark place and didn’t really care if I lived. My daughter lives out of state and was very worried, so she called the nurses' station and expressed her concern. This lovely young nurse named Makayla came in and talked to me about everything that was going right and how my body was healing. I shared that my son had died a few months ago and she shared some hard things she had recently gone through. She then told me she was off the next 3 days but if I needed her, I just had to tell one of the nurses and she would come in. The fact that someone who didn’t even know me would do that for me made me reach way down and find the strength to find my way back. That night another nurse who knew I wasn’t sleeping did everything he could think of to help me sleep and I started getting better. I’ve had several surgeries and I’ve never had nurses who made me feel so cared for. I just wanted you to know how special each and everyone is.
