Makayla had a patient scheduled for open-heart surgery the next day. The patient had never been in the hospital at all, he was 66 years old. His wife was very nervous and worried about her husband. Makayla and B invited his wife down to lunch with them because she was so nervous to leave the room; Makayla purchased the wife's lunch.
Additionally, Makayla bought the patient a brownie and brought it back to the room for him to have something to celebrate his birthday. The patient's birthday was the same day he was scheduled for surgery, which was the next day. When Makayla asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he told her all he wanted was strawberry cake, but our cafeteria did not have any, so she bought him a brownie for his birthday.
However, when Makayla finished her twelve-hour shift, she went and bought the patient cupcakes and ice cream, enough for his family to enjoy as well. She came back to the hospital to deliver the goodies to the patient's room so he and his family could have a birthday celebration all together before he went to open-heart surgery.
Makayla is an amazing nurse and has so much passion for her profession and love for her patients. This patient, his wife, and his family will never forget the acts of kindness Makayla portrayed. Each birthday they will remember these actions and this very special birthday celebration.
