The care, compassion, and empathy that Mali showed us and the way she talked to and taught us went a long way to making us feel comfortable and hopeful for the future.
My husband was recently diagnosed with CKD and had to start peritoneal dialysis. Since he is a young, fit man who didn't have any symptoms before the abnormal blood test, which led to needing dialysis in three days, we were pretty shocked as a family and really scared of what that meant for us. We were connected with Mali Zarch, who was our nurse and was teaching us to do exchanges at home. The care, compassion, and empathy that Mali showed us and the way she talked to and taught us went a long way to making us feel comfortable and hopeful for the future. She was amazing at connecting real-life scenarios, so it was easy for us to connect the new normal to our everyday life. She went above and beyond every day, providing care and answering questions, and even visited us when my husband was admitted again to the hospital. More than anything, it's not just all that she did, but that she did everything with such care that we felt cared for and that she was a member of the family who cared about my husband's recovery, but also how I would be able to provide him the best care at home. As a health care worker, I know how much workload nurses have and how busy they can get so to have a nurse who made us feel like she had all the time in the world for us and picked up calls and answered every question and connected with us with empathy is something that was almost a miracle to see.
