Mallory cheered me on and distracted me so well that I didn’t even realize I had been pushing for 3 hours.
I was induced into labor. I had a night shift nurse named Mallory who helped me at the end of her shift and came back to her next shift when I was in labor. I had been pushing for probably an hour when Mallory arrived. For the next two hours of constant pushing, Mallory cheered me on and distracted me so well that I didn’t even realize I had been pushing for 3 hours. She was so nice and straightforward. She gave me information and the “whys” of what was going on. Then, when it was time for the baby to come out, I suddenly had shoulder dystocia. I had no idea. Mallory never made me feel scared. She seemed calm and like she could make a miracle out of a bad situation. And she did, along with my doctor. Mallory then cleaned up the massive amount of blood loss I had. And while doing so, she still talked to me and asked if she could get me anything to drink. She went beyond her job. She showed compassion and care. She did her job to the best of her ability. She never wavered in energy. She was my personal cheerleader while I was laboring. I personally think my son wouldn’t be here without Mallory, at least maybe not as perfect as he is. Mallory, we owe you. You are amazing at what you do. You have given me such a different perspective on labor and delivery nurses. Thank you for saving my son and me, and for getting me through a traumatic labor and delivery.
