When I came on the unit I was depressed and very afraid. Malvina picked up on that instantly and put me at ease. She welcomed me and thanked me for choosing Palmetto Health. She said that I could rest assured that she would make my stay here a comfortable and pleasant one and that's exactly what she did.
She explained to me all the medication that I had to take by name, what it was for, and how often I would be taking it. I was really afraid of going to the Cath Lab because I didn't know what to expect. She told me I didn't need to be afraid and explained what the procedure was, and how it was done and, more importantly, that it wasn't painful. She explained that what had to be done when I returned to the unit would depend on what site they inserted the catheter. She explained everything that I was going to have done, what the procedure was, and how long it would take. She explained everything in such detail that when she was done explaining everything I didn't have any questions. By the time I was to go to the Cath Lab, I felt at ease and calm as though she had given me a Valium.
There is no way I could have gotten through my first day in this hospital without Malvina Scott. She said that she treats all of her patients the way that she would want to be treated, but my personal opinion is that she went far beyond her call of duty. Malvina's level of excellence and professionalism is exceptional.
This isn't just a job for Malvina Scott, it is her calling. She went out of the way to make me comfortable. I felt like I was being taken care of by a close family member. She most definitely deserves this DAISY Award and so much more. You should be proud and honored to have such a gem on your staff.
