I would like to nominate Mamata Kadel for a DAISY Award because she demonstrated extraordinary compassion, patience, and professionalism during one of the most difficult moments of my father’s hospital stay. She first cared for my father on one of his worst days—when he was confused, not himself, and struggling to process everything happening around him. It would have been easy to become frustrated or distant in that situation, but she never treated him with anything less than absolute grace and patience. She approached him with kindness, dignity, and understanding, even when he was not at his best. The kind of day my father was having is the type that might make many nurses hope for a different assignment the next day. But she showed the true heart of nursing—she came back ready to help again, bringing the same calm and compassionate presence with her. At one point during our stay, my father became especially confused and was not receptive to other nurses trying to care for him. While some staff understandably stood back to give him space, she stepped forward. She approached him gently and spoke with him in a calm, reassuring way. Her demeanor was so kind and patient that he responded to her when he wouldn’t respond to others. In that moment, her ability to connect with him made all the difference. What stood out most about her was that she never showed bias or frustration toward my father, even when he was confused and difficult. She saw him as a person deserving of dignity and care, and she met him with empathy every step of the way. For our family, seeing someone treat our loved one with that level of patience and compassion during such a vulnerable time meant everything. Her kindness, professionalism, and willingness to step forward when it mattered most truly embody what the DAISY Award represents. For these reasons, I am honored to nominate Mamata Kadel for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
