Mamie Jackson goes above and beyond every day but I was privileged to hear this story:
For thanksgiving this year she felt that patients who are in the hospital have extra pain on the holidays and that often lack the extra smiles and attention on the holidays. So Mamie went to her director Joann Lake-Winter and asked to be allowed to get dietary to cater a thanksgiving feast for our patients and families--she was granted this permission as long as the food was catered via Morrison's. Mamie organized and planned the meal, location and volunteers. Mamie and her sisters came and served and cleaned up the area so that food services would not have to stay, serve, or clean up on the holiday. Mamie did this on her own time and her own day off and on the holiday.
For the everyday job she does as going out of her way to ensure our patients get discharged, get the financial assistance they need, and care Mamie cared to go the step beyond. She typed up flyers and met with each patient and family and extended each a warm invitation to this thanksgiving feast away from home.
The patients of 10 Thomas and 10 East along with Sandra Howard and Ruth Tutor want to nominate Mamie Jackson for the DAISY AWARD.
