Mamye Screen 2, RN

Mamye always puts patients first. Her dedication to excellent patient care is evident in every patient interaction. She consistently advocates for both patients and their families. Patients are continually complimenting the care they receive from Mamye. I will have patients tell me how she talked to them about their life, their religion, their hard times, and helped them through their rough patch. There have been so many examples of how Mamye herself or through her leadership has touched the lives of patients on 5N. Her ability to connect with patients on a personal level makes her an invaluable asset to our team. Mamye will spend her time and own money to get items needed for patients and their families. When I round, I hear many times, "the nighttime charge RN took care of my needs," and if there are issues, patients will report “she got it all worked out; she is amazing”. Mamye pays attention to detail and often gets recliners for family members or extra pillows for patients. The small things make such a huge difference in patient experience.

Mamye is certainly the person you want in a crisis. She almost single-handedly extinguished a fire and created an evacuation plan for the entire unit, assigning tasks to staff. She recently encountered a situation in which a patient passed out on the commode, and because of the size of the rooms, they could not safely mobilize the patient. Mamye instructed staff to have the patient lie on a blanket on the floor, and they dragged her out of the bathroom and to the side of the bed to create more room to work and allow additional staff to be present to help get the patient up. Mamye pays attention to every detail of what is going on in the unit. Especially as the charge RN, she knows details on every patient, who has family in the rooms, who needs closer monitoring, and she is not afraid to advocate. This is probably her strongest skill. She appropriately escalates concerns and, more importantly, empowers newer staff to do the same, serving as a mentor to them. She truly embodies the core values of our institution and sets a high standard. Mamye also asks her teammates about their lives and helps them in meaningful ways, offering study help, a listening ear, even a bodyguard if needed. Even as a leader, she checks in on me. It really makes you feel good when someone can pick up on when something is off with you, point it out, and offer help. Recognition of others is one of Mamye's superpowers; she recognizes others on a daily basis, sharing the great things that they have done; she serves as an informal mentor to almost every member of the 5N team.

Mamye strives to shine her light onto the community as she silently volunteers her time to help others outside of work. She does this in more of a silent-servant way, not seeking recognition for all she does for her community. I know that she supports the community by donating items patients will need upon discharge. Bringing items to make patients feel more at home while they are inpatient. She has also donated money to teammates to support them in hard times. She will take items to local shelters and food banks, always putting the needs of others first. Mamye's exceptional commitment to patient care and her unwavering dedication to both her colleagues and the community make her a truly remarkable and inspiring individual.

Mamye not only serves as an RN, but she has also served our country as a member of the Army. Mamye is a servant in every way and has dedicated her life to helping others. I truly hope that she feels the love and support from our team and the community she has impacted so deeply, and I hope that we are able to pour back into her just a fraction of what she has poured into each individual, this unit, hospital, and organization.
