Mannette has worked on 2 Southeast for over 12 years. To say Mannette is just an extraordinary nurse would be an understatement. She always goes the extra mile for her patients and their families in addition to being an active member in various committees throughout the hospital. Mannette not only embodies Harrison's core values and mission statement, but is an outstanding role model and mentor to her peers.
Mannette consistently makes a positive difference in the lives of our patients and their families on a daily basis. She is able to make a special connection and establish trust in times when the patients and their families need it the most. Mannette is compassionate, comforting, and always present to listen with her big heart. She treats patients the way I would want myself or my family members to be treated, with dignity and respect. Mannette also keeps her patients informed and assures they are involved with healthcare decisions.
Throughout the years, Mannette has orientated, trained, and has been a preceptor to some of the finest nurses. She loves inspiring students and new nurses. When I asked her why she loved working with students and orientating new nurses, Mannette stated, "Because the future of nursing is in their hands and I would love to very much be involved in touching that said future." It is with that kind of positive and selfless attitude that sets her apart from others.
Leading also comes natural for Mannette since she has been a charge nurse for 10 years. As a charge nurse, she is an excellent resource. When someone needs help, you can count on Mannette to be there. If a patient or family member is unhappy, Mannette is there to listen and to find a solution to help with service excellence. She not only advocates for our patients, but also for our staff.
Mannette has such commitment to the nursing profession. She recently validated her knowledge and skills by passing the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board which shows her colleagues and patients her commitment to excellence in the medical-surgical nursing practice. Mannette is also an active, innovative force on the Nurse Practice Committee which she co-chairs, Magnet Steering Committee, and 2 Southeast AAIR Unit Council.
Mannette has touched the lives of so many people throughout our community and has been inspiring to so many peers both professionally and personally.

"In every group, in every situation, there are individuals who stand out because of what they do. At Harrison Medical Center, one of those individuals is Mannette. As a nurse, she lives up to our core values of empathy, innovation and accountability. As one of the more senior nurses on 2 Southeast, she is our "go-to" nurse. But what is a "go-to" senior 2 Southeast nurse? To those of us who have been nurses long enough, we all have taken care of patients from the nicest and very unpleasant to the most difficult, non-compliant, demanding, abusive, and manipulative. With Mannette, she treats all her patients with respect and dignity. I had witnessed on numerous occasions, not only was Mannette not deterred in providing exceptional care to the "difficult" patients, but even advocates for them. It almost seems like a personal challenge for her to turn these patients around. And while she was not successful at times, it was not for lack of trying. Mannette does not only treat her patients with respect and dignity, she treats everybody, her colleagues and co-workers, with respect and dignity. If there is anybody who personifies what the DAISY Award represents, it is Mannette."
