August 2026 Honoree
Mandi Adams, RN
My nephew was admitted to the hospital following a traumatic event and suffered multiple injuries and broken bones. Along with the physical injuries came a great deal of emotional pain. He underwent several surgeries and had a very difficult time coping with a prolonged hospital stay. Understandably, he was frustrated, discouraged, and not always the easiest patient.
His physicians had approved him to go outside, but significant pain and limited mobility made that seem nearly impossible. On day eight of his hospitalization, Mandi was his nurse. She recognized not only his physical pain but also the anxiety, isolation, and emotional toil that spending day after day in a hospital room was taking on him.
At that point, all of his transfers required an overhead lift, and finding a way to get outside without increasing his pain or anxiety was a challenge. But (Name) was determined. She came up with a solution that none of us had ever seen before: she took him outside in his hospital bed. With a little creativity, determination, and perhaps a few surprised looks from security, she wheeled him right out the door and turned it into a fun adventure.
The impact was immediate. His spirits lifted; he smiled, and for the first time in days he was able to enjoy a change of scenery and a sense of normalcy. When his mom shared a photo with our family, the responses poured in, along with countless heart emojis and messages of joy and gratitude.
Thank you, Mandi! Your creativity, compassion, and willingness to go the extra mile made a tremendous difference. What may have seemed like a simple outing became a bright spot in an incredibly challenging hospitalization and a memory our family will never forget.

Mandi was “the nurse that saved my life,” my dad stated when talking about his nurse while in care at Bryan East. Mandi was instrumental in communicating and advocating for my father to have concerns addressed and answered during a very difficult time in his understanding of medical care processes.
Thank you, Mandi, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
