From her very first encounter, she came in prepared, assessing his immediate needs and providing plans to address them such as an incentive spirometer. Mandy literally made aloud the sounds she was auscultating in the bottom of his lungs. Then she drew a face on the spirometer and named him Wilson (from the Castaway movie) to have the patient make a connection to him. She anticipated his needs before he was aware of them. She spoke directly to him even though his eyes were closed and his ability to communicate was impaired. She didn't hesitate to contact the doctor or another department, such as dietary, to meet his needs. No task was too small for her, such as cleaning up the room, bringing him snacks, and attending to his personal needs with respect.
