There is someone in particular who has helped us on countless occasions; someone who really stands out in our minds when we think of Sick Kids Hospital. She embodies an incredible work ethic and demonstrates values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability in her everyday work and continuously goes the extra mile to ensure her patients receive the best care possible. We normally do not write letters, however, we felt compelled to write this one. Mandy Rickard, a Nurse Practitioner on the Urology Team is truly incredible.
Time and time again she has surpassed our expectations with our 3-year-old daughter's care. Our appreciation for Mandy can be best summarized in the following 5 points: Parent Education - Mandy takes the time to explain process and procedure. This continues to be vital in understanding our daughter's care. Mandy is extremely well-versed in her area of expertise and she is able to articulate clearly. Having a proper understanding of what is going on is invaluable.
Responsive - As our daughter's care plan developed, many questions have arisen. Mandy is extremely responsive. She always answers phone calls and emails. Her advice and insight on situations are so valued. It can validate our concerns or calm our overthinking. Knowing that she is an available resource is a constant comfort.
Follow Through - Mandy always does what she says she will do. She is reliable, accountable and always follows through. This is very important because it has created a strong level of trust.
Confidence - Since Mandy is such an expert in her field and exudes confidence this, in turn, gives us confidence in her advice and care plans.
Above & Beyond - This is the big one. On numerous occasions Mandy has exceeded our expectations by returning phone calls after hours, refilling a prescription in the middle of a long weekend, squeezing us into her clinic hours to avoid a trip to the ER, and checking in on us in the Paediatric Ward. She never makes us feel like we are inconveniencing her and always makes time for us. The tough days are a little bit easier to endure when you have people like Mandy Rickard on your side!
