Mandy took the matter into her own hands and provided him with money to get his prescriptions at the local pharmacy.
We had a patient on our floor who was a veteran. Because his medications were normally filled by the Veterans Administration, there would have been a delay in him getting his medications once he was discharged. While Mandy was discharging this patient, he was speaking with her about these prescriptions and was concerned because they were just sent to the VA, but they won't be fulfilled for about a week. The doctor did write for the prescriptions to be picked up at a local pharmacy, but they were out of his price range, and he did not have his wallet, it was at home. Our meds to beds option had shut down for the day and our department care manager was also home for the night. Mandy took the matter into her own hands and provided him with money to get his prescriptions at the local pharmacy. Unfortunately, at discharge, he also needed a ride home as his wife was also at home ill and he was her primary caregiver. With this information, Mandy and others on the unit not only arranged for a cab ride home but also a stop at the local pharmacy to pick up his prescriptions. This situation sheds light on the compassion and commitment Mandy has for her patients, and this is just one scenario where she has gone above and beyond to build trust for our community in our hospital.
