Manny’s calm and balanced nature is appreciated by staff, patients, and providers.
Manny is a phenomenal nurse. He is flexible, kind, humorous, intelligent, and pretty much my right hand. His calm demeanor makes challenging and stressful moments manageable. He is often taking on many roles. He is a discharge/admit nurse, wound care, floor/staff nurse, charge nurse, unit representative, educator to staff and his manager, lends an ear to his coworkers (mostly surgeons), and brings up safety concerns. He does this without skipping a beat. He just jumps in, keeps a smile on, and moves forward. He advocates issues and keeps his head on straight, not letting stress cloud his judgment. Manny’s calm and balanced nature is appreciated by staff, patients, and providers.
Throughout the day I hear his name called out, questions brought to him, a new task to distract the current task, with “guide me, show me, tell me, how do I?” and on and on. Those who come to him are of all roles – we all just know that he knows.
Manny rounds daily on patients, provides wound care, educates before discharge, helps his staff with med rounds, goes to represent the floor in bed huddles, PPRs, and system initiatives. Although he doesn’t have primary patients often, he supports their safe and excellent care in so many ways. Manny deserves to be recognized for his amazing service to this unit, his dedication, loyalty, and his caring and kind nursing leadership. I am lucky to have him on my team. I am proud of him.
