Manny was caring for a Post Cardiac Arrest. Patient was doing ok when she first got here, critical, but ok. One of the patient's daughters was with the patient. While the daughter was in the room, the patient started to code. Orders were received for EPI and it got a BP back and a HR. During this time Manny started talking to the daughter about the code status of the patient. The daughter stated that the patient would not want to continue to be coded with chest compression and medication. She stated that her mother suffered enough and that if she was to code again to let her go.

Manny stopped and took approx. 20-30 minutes explaining to the daughter everything that was going on with the patient. He was so compassionate with the daughter and never once appeared to be rushing the daughter or put out. He answered every question that the daughter had and never once left the bedside. Manny comforted the daughter the entire time. The daughter left the room to get the other siblings back, to have a talk about their mother and her condition. After the Doctor spoke to the family, Manny again sat down and answered any and all questions that the family had for them. Again, he was very patience with the family and never left bedside until the family was at peace, as best as they could be.

Unfortunately, the patient did pass with the family at bedside. I truly believe, that this was made a little easier for the family to make this difficult decision and to get through this very difficult time because of Manny's very kind words and comforting he did at bedside. He was there for this family and kept them completely informed.
