Manuel Arteaga, MSN, RN
It is an honor to work with Manuel, and he definitely deserves this award and recognition. He incorporates the DAISY Award values in his daily work. Here are my bullet points of why he is a DAISY Nurse:
-He is a fierce advocate for his patients, especially with families with limited English proficiency. He takes the time to ensure they have everything they need to have a safe discharge. I have seen him on the phone with vendors to get the equipment that families need, all done in a professional manner.
-No matter how busy the unit is, he is always willing to help out a colleague or take that extra time to speak with families.
-He creates a warm and inviting work environment; treats everyone with respect and as an equal. Always approachable to ask questions and share best practices.
-Always willing to learn a new department/unit.
-One of my early encounters with him was with a complex family. He went out of his way to ensure this family had everything they needed, even following up with the family after discharge.
-His compassion and empathy for our patients is noteworthy. He treats all families with respect.
-His passion for having services in a patient's native language is very important to him.
-He has only been a year in his role, and I know he has made a major difference with the families and co-workers he is involved with. I cannot wait to see how he will take his position further and what positive changes he will make.
