I would like to nominate/recognize Marcello for the work he did with an extremely sick patient. I had responded to a code in Fluoro which required immediate IR intervention. An ICU nurse was needed in the IR room to help manage the patient and to operate the rapid transfusion equipment. I called up to the floor and asked Marcello to hand off his other patient and meet me downstairs. As soon as he arrived, he immediately began working to help save the patient. As soon as I was able to get the transfuser set up, Marcello began to transfuse what would end up being multiple coolers worth of massive amounts of blood products. Once we got back to the floor, Marcello worked tirelessly to continue to support the patient in what in reality ended up being a multi-hour code situation. Marcello administered massive amounts of blood product, pressers, advocated for the patient, utilized/delegated to the team members that were able to assist, and overall did an exceptional job keeping the patient alive. Throughout the situation he was calm, thorough, and professional. The rest of the team that day did an amazing job, but Marcello really excelled.
