Today we want to take a moment to recognize someone who truly represents the heart and soul of this unit. In hospice, the work we do isn’t easy. It asks us to show up with compassion, patience, and strength, even on the hardest days. While all of us strive to do that, there are people who go beyond what’s expected, people who give not just their time, but their heart. Marcia is one of those people. You show up not only for our patients but for all of us in the quiet moments and in the chaos.
In the grief, you are steady, thoughtful, and endlessly giving. You notice the little things that others might miss, and you act on them without even being asked. You give your energy, your kindness, and even your own resources to make this unit a better place. Not for recognition, not for praise, but because it’s simply who you are. In a place where comfort means everything, you are comfort. In a place where compassion is our mission, you live it every single day.
So today, we want to say thank you not just for what you do, but for who you are. For your unwavering compassion, selfless generosity, and the countless unseen ways you lift both patients and staff. Your kindness doesn’t go unnoticed. You are the heart of the unit. Marcia’s generosity and dedication extend far beyond her daily responsibilities. She personally provided funds to make our Ronald McDonald House meal possible and supported hosting a Halloween party for our unit, creating moments of joy not just for staff, but for the patients and families we serve. She regularly brings lotions, body washes, and other comfort items to enhance patient care, always thinking of the small details that make a meaningful difference.
In addition, Marcia uses her time and skills to tailor gowns so they are more functional and dignified for hospice patients, an act that reflects both her creativity and deep compassion. While all these contributions are incredible, what stands out most is the exceptional, consistent care she provides every single patient. She leads with kindness, thoughtfulness, and a genuine desire to make each person feel seen, comfortable, and valued.
